Today’s Scripture: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words. 1┬áThessalonians 4:16-18

We love to dream about exotic places, incredible vacations, and breathtaking views, but there is something special about coming home. We find comfort in coming back to our own houses, being with our friends and loved ones, and settling back into our familiar surroundings. But as special as it may be, this world is not our home.

Our real home is with Christ. Can you imagine what Heaven looks like? We have a few descriptions about what Heaven is like, but only enough to cause our imaginations to run wild. We are told about walls of jasper, gates of pearls, a sea and river as crystal, the tree of life, and the streets of gold. However, what is greater than any physical description could ever be is the fact that we will be with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We will forever be with the One who loved us and gave Himself for us.

We have a promise that He is coming back for us. One day, the trumpet will sound, and we will be with Him. This should be a great comfort to us. Though we face the trouble caused by sin here on earth, we have a perfect home in Heaven.

We often put too much stock in earthly possessions. We dwell on things that will pass away instead of on the things that will last for eternity. We need to remember that this world is not our home; we’re just passing through. Our real home is not far from here-it’s only a trumpet call away. Let’s be ready; we could go home today.
