Today’s Scripture: For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. RomansĀ 8:38-39

“Did anything come in the mail?” Michele asked as she burst into the dorm, her brown eyes sparkling with anticipation.

“No, sorry, nothing came for you,” said her dorm supervisor.

Michele trudged to her room disappointed. “No one even thought to send me a card on Valentine’s Day?” She plopped on her bed and wondered why she was one of the only girls not to receive a card or a heart-shaped box of candy.

For the entire week, she moped around feeling sorry for herself. She sat through dorm devotions still completely distracted until her dorm head read Romans 8:38-39. After hearing that verse, she realized she already had the greatest love of all-an inseparable love.

So often, we as Christians find ourselves basing our happiness on who pays attention to us as Michele did. We forget that we already have the love of the most important one of all – Jesus Christ. We find in our text verse that nothing can ever take that love away from us. It is so comforting to know we have a God who loves us unconditionally. We do not have to win His approval.

Have you been basing your happiness on how much others love you? Do you base your joy on how popular you are? Keep in mind you already have a God who loves you more than anyone else ever could.
