Today’s Scripture: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. James 4:14

There were two men that absolutely loved baseball and had played together while growing up. Amongst their countless conversations, the question, “I wonder if there is baseball in heaven?”, would always come up. Many years passed, and the first man was on his death bed. The other asked him a favor, “When you go, can you find out for me whether or not there is baseball in Heaven?”

With his last breath, his friend replied, “Yes, I will let you know.”

A little time passed before the second man heard his friend’s distant voice in a dream. The friend said, “I have good news and bad news. I want to tell you that there is baseball in Heaven.”

“Oh, that’s great news!” replied the friend. “What’s the bad news?”

“You’re up.”

At some point, we will all be “up to bat”. Our time here on Earth is very short. Scripture says our lives are like a vapor. We really must consider what we are doing with the opportunities God has given us. How are we spending our time, our money, our strength? When it is our turn to go, will we be ready, or will there be so many moments that we could have better spent serving the Lord?

The time to serve Him is now. The day to share the Gospel is today. There are so many distractions that may be taking your focus off the Lord and His will for your life. This world has no shortage of empty pleasures and fake escapes to dominate your time and thoughts. Why not take a moment right now to identify the things that are consuming your time and are pulling you away from Him?
