Today’s Scripture: And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. LukeĀ 2:10

Have you ever walked into a store in December only to see a child running down the aisle pushing all the buttons on the mechanical dancing Santas? As their arms and legs begin to move to the tinny Christmas music, you wonder why anyone would ever want to see or listen to that, let alone buy one to take home.

As you walk past that aisle, you see the next aisle is filled with Christmas lights galore. Every size, shape, color, and special effect is there for the choosing. Whether you want blue icicle lights, strobing rainbows, or twinkling white lights, you’ll probably find what you’re looking for.

Now, is there anything inherently wrong about Santa Claus or Christmas lights? No, but to many people, that’s all Christmas is. Christ has been tossed to the sidelines as Christmas has gone from remembering Christ coming to Earth to waiting for Santa to arrive to give us all of our selfish desires. As you look at all the things people do for Christmas, it may seem like Christmas runs on power outlets and batteries.

Yet, Christ was born in Bethlehem long before electricity was discovered. When He came, the angels announced His birth with tidings of great joy. It is the birth of the Savior that brings the joy of Christmas-not any decorations or secular characters we devise.

Real joy and happiness can only be found in the Savior, and as the angels proclaimed that day, it is for all people. We have the true Joy of Christmas; let’s share Him with someone this Christmas season.
