Today’s Scripture: And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? Mark 4:40‑41
There once was a ship that was caught in a storm off a coast with a very rocky shore. Everyone was worried because the ship was being tossed to and fro in very dangerous waters. Finally, one frightened person ran to the pilothouse and looked inside it. He saw the captain latched to his post, steering small turns left and right. As the captain turned, he saw the man watching him. He briefly faced the man and smiled.
The man ran down the stairs and yelled to everyone, “We’re going to be fine! We’re going to be fine! The captain smiled.”
Life is scary at times. We will all travel through storms and have no idea how we will make it past them. Those who don’t know Christ and have never accepted the gift offered by God ought to be scared. The Bible is clear about the terrible storm ahead for them. It predicts a seven year period of judgment for this world and an eternity in Hell separated from the One Who loves them so much.
However, for those of us who know Christ, the Captain is smiling! He is leading us through treacherous waters, but with Him as our Captain, there is nothing to fear. We are not on a ship that will sink. We have the Captain who controls the wind and the waves. No wonder the Scriptures remind us over and over not to fear!
