Today’s Scripture: And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:14-15
Yesterday we saw that the call to win souls comes from above – from God’s divine love and compassion. The call also comes from without – from the countless souls around us who are rapidly heading towards an eternity separated from God.
A few months ago we were inundated with images of our fellow Americans risking their own lives to rescue their stranded friends and neighbors from hurricane-induced flooding. People from all over the country loaded up boats and canoes and drove hundreds of miles to join the rescue operation. More recently we’ve seen iconic photographs of people shielding others from a gunman in Las Vegas.
I’m amazed and encouraged when I see people selflessly risking their lives to rescue those in need. Yet we have a higher calling – we are not rescuing people from floods or bullets, but from the flames of an eternity separated from God.
Every day we pass people on the streets, in the stores, at the mall – people who are on their way to a Christ-less eternity. Who will step up and answer the call that has gone out? Not the call to pull people from floodwaters, but the call to snatch them from the flames of hell.
