Today’s Scripture: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isaiah 55:11
It seems that not a week goes by where the accuracy and authenticity of the Word of God is not attacked. I firmly believe the Bible to be the infallible Word of God, because it declares itself to be, and that claim has withstood the test of time. Though I do not need external proofs to validate my faith, it is always exciting when archaeology backs up the claims of Scripture.
In Joshua chapter 6 we read the instructions that the Lord gave to Joshua concerning the conquest of the city of Jericho. Of interest are two things: God’s assurance that the walls would fall flat and the command to burn everything in the city except for silver, gold, brass, and iron.
In 1907, an archaeological excavation discovered piles of mud brick at the base of the city of Jericho. In the 1950’s, it was determined that these bricks were from the city wall that had collapsed outward, which would have enabled the Israelites to march right up into the city.
A three-foot deep layer of burned ash and debris was also found, and it was determined that the wall had collapsed before the city was burned with fire. It was a common thing for conquering armies to collect food as the spoils of war, but in the excavations of Jericho were found whole pots of grain – unused, and burned with fire.
Though liberal scholars try to undermine these findings and refuse to acknowledge God, the Bible stands firm. We can trust His Word completely. No matter what you are going through today, rest assured that God’s Word never changes.
