|Today’s Scripture: In the beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth. Genesis 1:1|
|One of the courses that most high school students experience is geometry. No, geometry is not the story of an acorn that fell into a hole, looked at himself many years later, and said, “Gee, I’m a tree!” In reality, geometry is a mathematical study in which you have to prove attributes of shapes or angles by using known, accepted facts or principles. If you don’t start with those foundational principles and then continue building on those axioms, you’re going to have a hard time getting through the rest of the course. As you delve deeper into the subject, you will still find that the very basic principles are true-basic principles like: the shortest distance between two points is a straight line and the sum of the angles of a triangle equals 180 degrees. You must begin with something that is concrete and acceptable. Everyone accepts the basic facts, and then you can move on to something greater and more involved.
In Scripture, we don’t find an emphasis on proving the existence of God; it’s accepted. It’s a known quantity! We should simply be able to look outside at nature and know God exists or just look at ourselves and understand that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
The Bible doesn’t spend a lot of time proving the existence of God. It doesn’t need to. It’s a fact! Scripture says in Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth.” In John 1:1, we learn, “In the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God, and the Word was God.”
When was the last time you doubted that the shortest distance between two points was a straight line? I dare to say never. How is it then, that we can be so intimidated by other people who doubt God’s existence and obvious love for mankind? Maybe after having doubts or hearing old fashioned “taunts” from those around you, you find yourself too timid to share the amazing news that God so loved the World (His creation, you) that He gave His only Son (Jesus) that whosoever (you) believeth on Him (Jesus) shall not perish (spend eternity in Hell) but have everlasting life (spend eternity in Heaven). Stand on the facts: God is real, and He is the Creator, Sustainer, and Savior of mankind.
