Today’s Scripture: For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
Though I have visited the land of Israel on several occasions, one of the sites that always sticks in my mind is the remains of a Canaanite altar at Megiddo. It was on this altar that the Canaanites sacrificed their own children to false gods.
The Canaanites were a very wicked people living in a very wicked society. They were under the dominion of the evil one. Jericho was Satan’s greatest fortress of the day, and against the power of God, it crumbled like a house built of cards. Actions of faith tear down Satan’s strongholds.
The strongest that the Devil can throw at God is nothing for God. If we believe God and trust Him and follow His way, we don’t need to fear what the Devil might throw our way. If we really understood His power and might in our life, why would we ever be depressed about the trials that we face? If we think that God’s arm is no longer strong, or that His Word is obsolete, we are so wrong. His Word is just as powerful and true today as it was in Joshua’s day.
The reason we have trouble with strongholds today is because we are not exercising faith in God’s way. Instead of marching around Jericho, we are trying to win the Canaanites over by using fleshly attractions. We grieve the Spirit of God when we don’t obey. Instead, let’s believe God today and tear down the strongholds of the Devil.
