Today’s Scripture: That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; Ephesians 4:14

There is a story told of a pastor who, attempting to get a kitten out of a small tree, tied a rope to his car and the tree. He hoped to bend the tree low enough to be able to reach the kitten. However, the rope snapped, flinging the kitten into the air. Though he searched the entire neighborhood, he could not find the kitten.

A few days later, the pastor was in the grocery store, and to his surprise, he saw one of his church members buying cat food. What was odd about this was the man hated cats. When the pastor asked why he was buying cat food, the man replied, “Well, my youngest daughter has been begging for a cat. I told her that if God dropped one from the sky, she could keep it. She ran outside, fell on her knees, and started praying. Pastor, I promise you, not thirty seconds later, a kitten fell into the yard, and here we are buying cat food.”

Just like that poor kitten was flying through the air with no control over where it would land, the Corinthian Christians were flying all over the place, heading wherever the wind would blow them. They were not standing fast, nor were they solid in the Christian faith. They were being tossed about just like our verse today warns us to avoid.

This is the second tip for success that Paul gaves them: Be solid. They needed to stand fast in the faith. This is not talking about their personal faith, but rather the whole body of truth of the Scriptures. This is the truth that Jesus is God, that He came to earth as the Creator and became the Savior. The truth that salvation is available to anyone who believes is the faith that we are to contend for.

Are you solid in your faith? Are you able to contend for the faith? If not, make today your turning point.
