Today’s Scripture: But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

Ellen looked at her shriveled carpet roses in despair. Their once blushing petals were now a pale reflection of their former glory. In a hopeful attempt to find a cure for them, Ellen clipped off a small section and brought it into her local nursery.

“Is there any chance you would know how to help my plant?” Ellen asked the woman at the front desk. After taking a quick look at the rose clipping, the woman showed her the section of fertilizer.

“Here, this should do the trick,” she said, handing her a bag. “This plant is just lacking nutrients. Once it gets some of this, it should spring back to health.”

Often, we as believers are just like the shriveled carpet rose. We are desperately lacking in nutrients that we can only get from God’s Word. In our Scripture passage, we read that we are to grow in grace and in the knowledge of God. When we neglect to fill our hearts with the truths of the Scriptures, we will find ourselves spiritually withering away.

Have you been getting your daily dose of truth from God’s Word? Perhaps you are a businessman constantly on the go or a working mom who is always strapped for time. If you don’t make time for the Word, you are going to wither beneath the pressures of life. Take the time, don’t neglect the spiritual nourishment.
