Today’s Scripture: Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. PsalmĀ 127:3

It is better to build strong children than to try to repair adults.

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” The word “train” in its original context means “to bend.” The word “way” refers to the mold or pattern into which we are bent. We are to “bend” our children into a pattern of righteousness, which they can pass on to their own children. This means we must begin, from an early age, to train them in the ways of God.

Unfortunately, God’s way for our children goes against their natural way. They have inherited a sin nature, which must be controlled. These rules govern their lives:

1. If I like it, it’s mine.
2. If it’s in my hand, it’s mine.
3. If I can take it from you, it’s mine.
4. If I had it a little while ago, it’s mine.
5. If it’s mine, it must never appear to be yours in any way.
6. If I’m doing or building something, all the pieces are mine.
7. If it looks just like mine, it’s mine.
8. If I saw it first, it’s mine.
9. If you are playing with something and you put it down, it automatically becomes mine.
10. If it’s broken, it’s yours.

Perhaps you’ve encountered these things with your own children. Don’t worry parents; you’re not alone in this battle! With the help of God, you are shaping the future!
