Today’s Scripture: And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already. And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation. And the children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them. Exodus 1:5-7
As you begin to live a life of faith, stepping out and trusting God with the unknown, you begin to see how. over and over again. God always keeps His Word and always comes through. Our faith lesson today is this: Faith knows that God’s promises will always come to pass.
When Joseph invited his father Jacob and the rest of the family down to Egypt out of the land of Canaan, there were only seventy people. Around 215 years later, the nation of Israel had grown to 600,000 men. Estimates that include women and children put the overall number at about 2 million people.
Why are we surprised when God’s promises come to pass? In Genesis 12:2, God had given Abraham an unconditional promise that He would make a great nation out of Abraham’s descendants. God kept that promise, and He wasn’t done blessing them.
Today, we can look through Scripture and see time and time again how God keeps His promises. That enduring faithfulness should encourage us to step out and trust God.
