Today’s Scripture: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isaiah 55:11
The year was 1947. The location was a dry desert area near the Dead Sea in Israel. To pass the time, a young, bored shepherd boy was throwing rocks into caves on the hillside. To his surprise, one throw resulted in the sound of shattering pottery. He climbed the hill to investigate, and the discovery of a lifetime was unleashed on the world.
What are now known as the Dead Sea Scrolls consisted of 870 separate scrolls, represented by tens of thousands of fragments, miraculously preserved by God for us today. The caves contained fragments of every book of the Old Testament except Esther.
Before this monumental discovery, Bible critics believed Isaiah, with its Messianic prophecies, was written after the time of Christ. When the scrolls were found, they not only contained the book of Isaiah, but it was proven that they were written at least 200 years before Christ’s birth. The Word of God had again silenced its critics.
God has preserved His Word for us. We can be confident that God’s Word is accurate and true. What God has said in His Word will come to pass. His promises never fail.
