Today’s Scripture: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree… 1¬†Peter¬†2:24

The greatest story ever told doesn’t start with, “Once upon a time…,” it starts with “Once upon a tree…” No story from the imagination of man can compare with the story of God’s love for us. Many times, an author writes a story to illustrate an attribute of God or a biblical truth. However, nothing can even come close to God Himself showing us His love.

God knew before Creation that He would have to die on the cross for the sin of mankind. Despite this fact, He still created us and was willing to send His Son to die so we could be with Him in Heaven. Jesus was willing to take on the sin of the world and be separated from His Father for us. His love for us will be evidenced throughout eternity by the scars He will forever bear from the anguish He suffered on the cross.

Just as no man can fully illustrate His love, no story can have the impact that His death and resurrection has on our lives. Because His death paid the price of our sin, it is the reason we can have eternal life. All we have to do is accept His death as the payment for our sins. Jesus promised eternal life to “whosoever believeth,” but nothing man can do can change our eternal destiny. We are sinners destined for Hell without Christ; only His death and resurrection can change that. No matter how inspirational, motivating, or well-written, no other story can save souls.

Christ knew that many would reject Him, but He saw the countless number of souls in Heaven and gave Himself for us. We have hope because He was willing to pay for our sins “once upon a cross.” Let’s share that hope with someone today.
