Today’s Scripture: But thou, O LORD, shalt endure for ever; and thy remembrance unto all generations. Psalm 102:12
It has been said that the only constant in life is change. The weather is always changing. Technology is constantly and rapidly improving. Today’s young people have no concept of a life without computers. Phones, cameras, recording devices – they’ve all transformed dramatically in our lifetimes. Values change, and people change. There is even change in the universe from order to disorder.
Change is the nature of life and our fallen creation. We find it unpleasant and intimidating. One of the reasons we don’t like change is because we like what we know. We’d rather keep the old things because they are familiar and comfortable; but sometimes things must change.
Sometimes we lose our health, or people we love. Our bodies change and wear out, and we can’t do anything about it. It’s all change; it’s unnerving and unsettling. So, what can we do?
In the midst of change, we have something that is steady and constant. God is the constant. He is not flustered or surprised. Nothing shocks Him. He knows the future. He knows your life and the very depths of your thoughts.
The God who knows everything about you doesn’t change. He is forever. We have a hard time understanding forever. We tend to think in a linear fashion, in terms of a beginning and an end, but God has always been.
“But thou, oh LORD, shalt endure forever…” No matter what’s going on in your life, no matter how turbulent things have been, this truth is what is going to get you back to center. If you are hurting or struggling with some painful change in your life, know that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He will never forsake you.
