What is the secret to avoiding temptation? Volumes have been written on this subject down through the centuries. Whole organizations have been created to help human beings cope with the subject. But does mankind have this problem licked? Just look around. Read the newspaper.
The Bible offers the only effective way to have a life of purity and holiness. We can’t do it on our own. Too many Christians think they can. They live within the boundaries, play by the rules, and still find themselves failing. Perhaps you find yourself in that position.
There is good news. The hope is not in any kind of system or formula, but in knowing and loving Jesus Christ. You say that sounds too simple, but that isn’t just nice words. It is truth.
When we’re satisfied with Christ, we have no need for the alternatives offered by the world, the devil, or our flesh. The Apostle Paul urges us to “be filled with the Spirit” as a replacement for addictions of the flesh. King David said to “taste and see that the Lord is good”.
When we enter the presence of the Almighty, we come away completely satisfied. Our thirst is quenched, our souls filled, and our minds occupied with the image of a loving Savior.
Temptation can be overcome when we understand that the spiritual life is not about the dos and don’ts, but about knowing Jesus Christ in an increasingly intimate and personal way.
Pray today that you might grow closer to Jesus than you were the day before.
Those who resist temptation are not the strong and the mighty, but the weak and lowly, who by prayer and faith feed on a steady diet of the richness of Christ. – Unknown Author
