|Today’s Scripture: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32|
|Words must be weighed, not counted. Polish Proverb
Well, I’m just being honest, that’s all. How often have you heard this refrain after a less-than-flattering critique from an angry coworker or friend? I’m sure you can think of moments when you’ve used that line to justify tearing someone down.
We all say that honesty is the best policy-but its not always wise to let everything we think come out of our mouths, unvarnished and unpolished. Sometimes we need a filter-like the filter of the Holy Spirit, who can sprinkle our words with grace. And sometimes we have to forbear, which means putting up with the faults of those we love (because they put up with ours).
Here’s a good tip. If you’re upset with someone-don’t approach them in the heat of your anger. Take some time to think on it. Pray it over and ask God for a good time to address the issue. Sometimes you’ll find that the issue isn’t with them-it’s with you. Sometimes you’ll find that it’s not an issue worth bringing up. And if it is something you must deal with-again, use grace as your filter.
The important thing is to esteem each other more highly than yourself. How would you like to be treated if the roles were reversed? In spite of what they’ve done to hurt you-respect them as a child of God.
