Today’s Scripture: My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word. Psalm 119:28

David sat in sackcloth and ashes. Distraught after finding his camp ransacked and all of the women and children gone, he and his men wept bitterly. After finding their families taken captive, the men spoke of stoning David. In this terrible situation, we find these wonderful words, “but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.” (1 Samuel 30:6)

When we reach a place in which we feel all alone and our soul melts with heaviness and sorrow, we can be encouraged to keep going by remembering Who God is. When our strength is gone, we have Someone Who is able to help. Not only is He able to bear our burdens, but He also specifically tells us to cast them upon Him because He cares for us. (1 Peter 5:7) We have a Savior who works all things together for good (Romans 8:28) and has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5) He loved us so much, He gave Himself for us (Galatians 2:20) and offered salvation to whosoever would believe. (John 3:16) He has sent the Holy Spirit (John 14:26) and blessed us with all spiritual blessings. (Ephesians 1:3) These are just a small number of promises we are given in His Word.

At times we all will face terrible trials in our lives. When we are hurting our worst, that’s when we need to go to God’s Word for strength. We can rest in God’s promises even when our world is crashing around us. Search God’s Word today and find some promises that God has made. We can make it because our God is faithful.
