Today’s Scripture: Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of Man cometh at an hour when ye think not. Luke 12:40
St. Peter carefully searched through the book before he looked up and said, “I’m sorry sir, but I cannot find you in the book.”
“How often is it updated?” asked the man.
“About every 10 minutes,” replied St. Peter.
“I was really stubborn and didn’t seek God until right before I died. So, maybe if we just wait a little longer my name will show up.”
“While we’re waiting, why don’t you tell me one of the good deeds you did in your life.”
“Well, I was driving along, and I saw a group of bikers surrounding an innocent little lady. I’m usually very timid, but I pulled over, stormed up to them and stood in front of the leader of the gang. He was 260 pounds of pure muscle, covered in tattoos, and had a chain from his nose to his ear. ‘You stop picking on this lady…or else!’ I yelled as I ripped the chain out of his nose and ear. ”
“Wow! When did this happen?” exclaimed St. Peter
“About 3 minutes ago.”
The world laughs at little stories about meeting St. Peter at the gate and pictures Heaven as a paradise that one must attain. Friend, the truth is that our righteousness is as filthy rags compared to God’s holiness. No man can rely on his own goodness at the pearly gates. Sadly, far too many people we come in contact with are striving to reach Heaven on their own.
If you have an unsaved friend or loved one with whom you have never shared the Gospel, pray that the Lord would open a door for you to do so. We do not know the day or the hour of the Lord’s return. But, we do know that salvation is not offered at the gate, it is offered to us now. I encourage you to watch the wallet illustration link below and remember that the gospel is not based on eloquence of speech but upon the power of God’s Word.
