Today’s Scripture: But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice. PsalmĀ 68:3

Every Sunday morning, I get up early to go over my sermon and circle things I want to emphasize. One morning, I got out my sermon, grabbed my favorite pen and tried to write. It was out of ink. I took another pen out of my stash. It didn’t write either. I tried pen after pen until there was only one pen left.

It was the most feminine pen I had ever seen in my life. It had flowers sticking out the back end so you couldn’t really put it in your pocket without the whole world noticing, but it worked. So I did my entire message with a flowery pen in my pocket. Sometimes the Lord just has to remind us to lighten up and smile.

At times, we take life too seriously. A little glitch at work becomes a catastrophe in our minds, and a bad hair day turns into the end of the world. But God does not want us to go through life with a perm-a-frown. He tells us in His Word He wants us to exceedingly rejoice.

Is every little bump in the road a disaster to you? Whether you had an embarrassing moment at school or made a careless mistake doing household chores, sometimes you just have to learn to laugh. Why not write today’s verse down? Remember to be glad-even when life gives you “flowery-pen-moments.”
