Today’s Scripture: And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she laid it in the flags by the river’s brink. And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him. Exodus 2:3-4
When our girls were just babies, there was a brief time when my wife, Karen, and I lived in a very small apartment. Amy was walking, but Erica was just starting to crawl. Our cramped living space got even smaller when Erica began moving around the apartment. In fact, one time we discovered that she had figured out how to open the small refrigerator and get into the leftover macaroni and cheese!
I can’t begin to imagine how hard it was for Jochebed to keep baby Moses quiet and hidden as he continued to grow. There must have been some painful moments when she realized that he was just too big and too noisy to keep hidden any longer. It was then that she displayed our next faith lesson: Faith always involves action.
I believe that God blessed Jochebed’s faith by helping her come up with a solution. When she couldn’t hide Moses any longer, she laid him in a small ark and put him in the river. I believe she knew where Pharaoh’s daughter would be in the river and set Moses in the river accordingly.
Faith in God’s promises is shown by actions. You are going to get to a point where you know you must make a decision to do something, and it is my hope that you will make a godly decision. If you can get this walk of faith right, people are going to see God in you.
