What is the most fascinating part of the Christmas Story? I realize this is a subjective question. You might think the angelic message to the shepherds was a really big deal—and it was. Some may feel Joseph and Mary’s trek from Nazareth to Bethlehem was a major highlight, while others point to the wise men which followed the star to the stable where Jesus lay.
I believe all of these elements have a significant role to play in the story, but beyond the exciting characters and heart-stirring drama we find a plot masterfully directed by God Himself. Hundreds of years beforehand, He dictated to prophets the minutest details concerning Jesus’ birth. He made sure the right things came together at the right time and place, and His plan worked flawlessly. But He’s God; would you expect anything less?
Each of our lives is filled with high and low points. There will be times when we rejoice in success, and there will be moments of disappointment over loss and failure. The Christmas Story reminds us in all things God is working to accomplish His purpose. We can be confident the finished product will meet with His approval.
