Today’s Scripture: My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD. PsalmĀ 104:34

Year after year, Mr. Peterson complained about how the summers were too hot and dry for his crops. He was known around town for his constant down-and-out attitude.

Finally, one summer was perfect for the farming community. As the season drew to a close, Mr. Peterson brought his goods to the farmers’ market. “Hey, Peterson, it looks like you did well this year,” commented one of the farmers.

“Yeah, I did, but these bumper crops sure took a lot out of the ground. It will be a rough year next year.”

Sadly, many of us are like Mr. Peterson. When something good happens, we think how it could have been better or anticipate how it is not going to last. Instead of simply being happy, we find ourselves always wanting something more.

How can we overcome this vicious cycle of discontentment? Be happy. Scripture reveals by meditating on the Lord, we can be glad in Him. When we spend time in His Word, we are reminded of how good He truly is.

Are you struggling with discontentment? Perhaps you are single and think things would be better if you had a mate. You may be a businessman who won’t be content until you get that next promotion. Be happy with where you are right now, and praise God. When you are glad in the Lord, you won’t find yourself with a down-and out attitude.
