|Today’s Scripture: This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Timothy 3:1-5|
|Paul warned Timothy of the condition of mankind in the last days. Although man is and always has been sinful, these traits would come to define the culture rather than existing in it. While men has always been lovers of themselves, covetous, proud, disobedient to parents, has there ever been a time when this is quite as true as today? Just a quick run-through this list will tell us just how far our society has come.
Lovers of their own selves – Mankind has always loved himself, (Eph. 5:29) but now, we have self-esteem classes to help us think better of ourselves.
Blasphemers – You can hardly go anywhere without hearing people use the name of God in vain.
Disobedient to parents – Children completely disregard what their parents tell them because they know there will be no real discipline.
Unthankful – Thanksgiving has gone from a time of being thankful for what we have to a time where we go out shopping for Black Friday sales.
Incontinent – Incontinent literally means “lacking self-restraint”. People have no self-control in their lives any more. They put what they want above everything else without regard for anyone or anything.
Despisers of those that are good – The world hates those who stand up for the Word of God.
Lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God – Between going to sporting events, sleeping in, the entertainment industry, and people doing their own things, how many people are pleasing themselves rather than being in church on an average Sunday morning?
The signs are all there – we are living in the last days! Are you ready for Christ’s return? He came the first time to save us from Hell; do you know Him as your Savior? If you do, are you living in accordance to God’s Word? Would He say, “Well Done,” or do you have some things you need to change? Don’t waste another day, the time is near when He will return.
