Is the will of God easily discernible for a Christian? Well, let’s just say it’s more than meets the eye. One day, the Apostle Peter went up on his friend’s rooftop to pray. Growing hungry, he asked his host to prepare some food. While he waited, he saw a sheet filled with many different kinds of animals come down from Heaven. He heard Jesus command him, “Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.”

But there was a problem: the sheet contained only ceremonially unclean animals, which Jewish people were forbidden from eating. Peter was aware of this, and said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.”

Jesus answered, “What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.” Twice more, Peter refused the offer, and the sheet of animals was withdrawn back into Heaven.

What Peter didn’t understand was the fact that God wanted to use Him to open the door of the Kingdom of God to the Gentiles. A prominent Gentile needed to hear the gospel so he and his family could be saved. Peter ultimately obeyed the leading of the Holy Spirit and visited this man’s house. But if he didn’t have the vision before the man’s servants showed up at the door, he would have never seized this opportunity. With perfect precision, God orchestrated each detail leading to the Gentile’s conversion.

God is doing the same in your life. Every detail of His will for you has been mapped out with flawless accuracy. You don’t have to wonder if you are in His will — just say yes to Him right where you are, and you will be in it. His way and timing are perfect. Seek Him in all things, and you can’t go wrong.

Inside the will of God there is no failure. Outside the will of God there is no success. — Bernard Edinger
