Today’s Scripture: Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. 26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Hebrews 7:25-26
Bill sat in his recliner, relaxing in front of the television after a long day of work. His heart was moved by a commercial for orphan children in foreign countries. The images of the suffering children made him want to give and support an orphan. However, an examination of his already tight budget revealed he was unable to free up the necessary monthly costs. Bill was willing to pay the price – but he was not able.
The first requirement of the kinsman redeemer was that he had to be a close relative, and the second requirement was that he had to be able to redeem. He had to have the financial means to buy back the person or property that had been sold into bondage. Becoming a redeemer was not a light or easy decision – there was a tremendous cost to the one paying the price of redemption.
Since all men have sinned, there is no man who is able to pay the price to redeem others – except the One who never sinned. As our near Kinsman, Jesus was able to pay the price of our redemption. He who had never sinned was made to be sin for us, so that we could spend eternity in Heaven. He paid the ultimate price of death in our place. Don’t ever take that redemption lightly – live like you are redeemed!
