In the Beginning Was the Word

Today's Scripture: Psalm 19:1-4

What do you believe about the Bible? Is it merely a good literary piece? A storybook for children? A set of nice life ideals you can generally apply? Or is it God’s inspired, error-free Word? If the Bible is not completely true, man chooses what he will obey. When obedience is subject to interpretation, man’s will overrules God’s law. The perfect God, subjected to sinful man. He is no longer the ultimate Standard of Truth.

Why is God’s Word attacked today? For the same reason a cornered criminal attacks a police officer. He knows he’s wrong, and the presence of the law or a law officer sheds light upon his wrongdoing. Maybe you’ve felt this way after your spouse confronted you about an error you made. Perhaps you’ve lashed out after a parent or teacher reprimanded you. No one enjoys being told they’re wrong.

And this is why men work so hard to disprove the Bible: It reveals their sin. If God’s Word is not true, the Creation account is a myth, God's moral code is meaningless, and Christ’s sacrifice was in vain. Sin then becomes acceptable, and man is free from personal accountability.

Is pride keeping you from accepting the Truth found in the Word of God? Confess your sins, and you will find grace. May God’s Word drive you from sin, and draw you closer to Him.

Today's Quote: Men do not reject the Bible because it contradicts itself, but because it contradicts them.
