Today's Scripture: Joshua 1:9

On May 2, 2008, a cyclone laid desolate the country of Myanmar, killing over 77,000 people. Just ten days later, 5 million people lost their homes after a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck An Xian, China. Tens of thousands more lost their lives. In times like these, we ask the question, “Where was God in all of this?” or “Why did God allow these disasters to happen?” I cannot explain God’s motive for allowing such destruction, but I will tell you this: God is still there.

Sometimes it may seem like God has forgotten you. Be encouraged: when you’re struggling to make ends meet financially, The Lord is there; when your children are causing you problems, The Lord is there; though the world falls apart all around you, The Lord is there.

Hebrews 11 is known as the “Hall of Faith” chapter. Many of the “champions” were forced to endure incredible hardships because of their faith. We’re familiar with the few God chose to deliver from their trials — Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego — we must also be aware that “…Others were tortured… They were stoned … sawn asunder… tempted… slain with the sword…”

The theme of the next chapter, however, is: “Look unto Jesus!” Regardless of what we’re forced to endure as Christians, stay focused on Christ, for He is always present.

Today's Quote: When you have nothing left but God, then you become aware that God is enough. —Maude Royden
