You’re On Your Own Now

Today's Scripture: Genesis 37:1; 1 Corinthians 1:9
There is a story about Mayor Richard Daley, who ruled Chicago from 1955 to 1976. One of his speech writers came into Daley’s office and demanded a raise.
As expected, Daley responded, “I’m not going to give you a raise. You get paid more than enough as it is. It’s a privilege to work for a great American hero like myself.”
Two weeks later, Daley was on his way to give a speech to a veterans group. As was his custom, Daley didn’t look at the speech until he got up to give it. There the mayor stood, throngs of people before him, television cameras catching every word, reporters scrambling to jot notes. He began to describe the plight of veterans, “I’m concerned for you. I am deeply convinced that this country needs to take care of its veterans. That’s why I’ve outlined a seventeen point plan.”
Then Daley turned to the second page which was blank except for a line that read, “You’re on your own now, you great American hero.”
Do you ever feel like you’re on your own in this world? I’m sure Joseph felt that way. But he wasn’t alone. God was there with him, in that faraway jail in that faraway land. Even when he was wrongly accused.
Wherever you are in your situation, God is there and He is with you.
