The Real Danger of Pride

Today's Scripture: Genesis 4

Sometimes the hardest words in the English language are, “I’m sorry.” I’m talking about a genuine, heartfelt apology.

Why is it so hard? Because we have something sinister inside of us called pride. Pride is really at the root of all sin. It’s what keeps us from admitting our shortcomings. It insists that we’re right and everyone else is wrong.

Cain was full of pride. When given a chance at forgiveness, Cain clung to his excuses.

All God wanted from Cain was genuine repentance. Even when confronted with the knowledge of his sin, Cain couldn’t bow before the Almighty and ask for grace. “My punishment is greater than I can bear” were his words.

Yet God wasn’t expecting him to bear his punishment. No, the Father would send a Redeemer to bear the punishment, not only for Cain’s sins, but for the sins of the entire world. But before Cain could accept God’s grace, he had to realize he was a sinner.

Many, like Cain, reject God’s grace. They don’t have to bear the unbearable consequence of their sin because Jesus has born it already. Anyone who accepts Jesus as their Savior can stand before God as righteous.

Where are you? Have you come to Jesus or like Cain, is your pride keeping you from being forgiven by God?

Today's Quote:  Pride is a stab at Deity; it is an attack upon the undivided glory of God.
