Today's Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1
In Tom Brokaw’s book, The Greatest Generation, he shares a profile of a remarkable woman named Mary Wilson, who lives in Dallas, Texas. This modest woman was the recipient of the Silver Star and she bore the nickname, “The Angel of Anzio.” When the Allies got bogged down in Italy during World War II, they attempted a daring breakout by launching an amphibious landing on the Anzio Beach. Unfortunately, they got pinned down at the landing site and came dangerously close to being driven back into the ocean.
Fifty-one Army nurses went ashore at Anzio, led by Mary Wilson. Bullets whizzed in and out of the tent where she assisted the doctors in surgery. As the situation spiraled out of control, an order was made to get all the nurses out of the area. But, Mary Wilson wouldn’t budge. She refused to abandon these men at their gravest hour. In recalling her story years later, she said, “How could I possibly leave them? I was a part of them.”
Aren’t you glad that God doesn’t leave us? Especially when our situation grows bleak, especially when we’ve failed Him so miserably. God always hears our cries. He knows our fears. He sees our sorrows and our troubles. Jesus will always stay by our side. Why? Because as a man and as God, He is one of us.
